Jason McCash, former bassist for doom heroes The Gates Of Slumber, has sadly passed away at the age of 37.

Jason had been playing bass with the band since 2003, and released 5 albums of absolutely crushing doom, in addition to numerous splits and EPs. The band’s most recent release was last year’s exemplary ‘Stormcrow’ EP, which is available for free download here.

Vocalist/guitarist Karl Simon has given the following statement:

“My best friend died last night.

“There will be no reunion — no more of The Gates Of Slumber. It’s dead beyond dead, and I’ve lost a brother.

“Please be respectful or silent. It’s a small world and I’m still alive. Remember that shit.”

A McCash Family Memorial Fund has recently been set up to help support Jason’s wife and three children through this difficult time. For more information on how you can contribute, click here.

Bad Omen Records is currently auctioning off a test pressing of Satan’s Satyrs ‘Black Souls’ 7″, and will be donating all the proceeds to the fund. Only 10 units were ever pressed, so not only is this your chance to own a rare piece of vinyl goodness, you’ll also be donating to an extremely worthy cause indeed.
